DR 103 ,NO SOUND!

Postby louis on Tue Mar 09, 2010 3:35 pm

There is only 5% of the sound coming out of my Custom 100,
what should I check for before taking it to a tech?

Thank's!...............Louis

In no particular order:

Fuses (with Power OFF / amp UNPLUGGED)
Speaker cord
Impedance switch setting (the rotary kind can have dead spots, the original pin type kind can collect oxidation)
Power tubes - visual check (all lit?)
Does the sound level vary at all with the preamp and master settings?
Any strange odors coming from the amp?
Anything unusual happen the last time the amp was used?

-Fuse is OK!
-Impedance adaptor is free of rust
-All tubes are glowing and yes the sound goes up when I increase volume .
-Speakers cord is OK
-No smell
-Yesterday ,Ive put a Phillip smooth plate in V1 and it was working good.

Did you change anything between the time it was working and the time it was not?

My tech found the problem ,one of the preamp tube (V3) was bad even though it was glowing.

By the way ,he always worked into Marshall amps and when he saw the inside
of my amp with the military wiring and the Partridge trannys , his jaw dropped down the floor !!

I said to him , my friend ! ...This is called a HIWATT!!

Thank's for the help!!.......................Louis
